His Helping Hands Cat Rescue

His Helping Hands Cat Rescue

We provide a loving and nurturing environment for the care and control of the feral and stray, homeless cat and kitten population in Galena, Illinois.

Our mission is to maintain and operate a permanent no-kill shelter which provides a loving and nurturing environment for the care and control of the homeless cat and kitten population; our volunteer staff is dedicated to providing the veterinary needs and services for the homeless and feral cats as well as information to the residential community regarding the need for our services.

Our immediate, intermediate and long term intended goals will evolve as our organization grows, however as an overview these goals will be fulfilled through public fundraising as well as other philanthropic activities. For now we intend to:

1. Trap, alter, vaccinate and administer veterinary attention to feral (here the term means homeless) cats that are in the areas that we maintain.
2. Educate our community in Galena as well as the surrounding areas by developing flier information to assist in the education of people in all aspects pertaining to the overpopulation of cats, the euthanasia statistics, and the most effective and humane way to reduce overpopulation.
3. Attend and speak at city council meetings to seize the attention of the citizens in our community regarding PROGRAMS needed that will effectively attain the aforementioned.
4. Educate and work with the residents themselves-discuss the need for their involvement and to discuss altering issues regarding their own personal pets.
5. Bringing information to schools so as to initiate the importance of responsible animal treatment with the most important group of people impacting the future, our children.
6. Establish contacts with local veterinary personnel that will assist at reasonable rates.
7. Research within Galena, a property that would be affordable for a feral haven. (This facility would be used to service vet care, tame and placements of once feral cats and kittens, nurture ill felines to health and to provide a home for the few that would not survive if released, but would otherwise live a healthy and happy life.)
8. Success in discussing and collectively agreeing with residents of Galena for the need to prepare the kittens and cats (that can be placed) for their new homes responsibly. (test for communicable diseases, administer all shots, alter and insert chips)
9. Obtain a facility, within our proximity, that meets the requirements of the city and is fully functional as previously mentioned.
10. Considerable reduction or elimination of euthanasia statistics associated with this issue.

These goals of our TNR permanent no-kill shelter are on going and will be met with community support, His Helping Hands Rescue will forever be dedicated to serving the feral kitten and cat populations of Galena Illinois; with our commitment the residents of our community will find solace knowing that we are here loving and respecting all creatures great and small.
