Society for Human and Institutional Development (SHID)

To work with poor and marginalized communities to eradicate poverty, enhance peace, equality and social justice

Society for Human and Institutional Development (SHID) is a non-political, non-profitable and non-religious organization working with the oppressed and marginalized communities living in the remote rural areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) through short-term development initiatives with the close consultation of the local community. It aims to reduce poverty and bring about long lasting changes in the lives of oppressed and marginalized groups by facilitating the process of empowerment and sustainable community development.

As in rural areas there are few organizations that work in the Human and Institutional Development (HID) sector. The main causes of poverty in the rural areas and communities are their poor institutional structure; poor policy planning on the part of the government, strategic directions, lack of skills in man power, lack of opportunities to quality education and lack of know how to exploit their potential resources. So these were the issues, which realized the philanthropists, community development professionals and volunteers of the Society for Human and Institutional Development (SHID) to mobilize, utilize and efficiently manage their internal and external resources to achieve sustainable improvement in the lives of the marginalized and poor communities of the rural areas of the country.
SHID working since 2000 with the aim to help and enable the disadvantaged, oppressed and marginalized people, to mobilize and utilize the internal and external resources to achieve sustainable improvement in their lives. The socio economic problems and the poor economic indicators of the rural areas and compounded by the indifference of the development agencies, made the community development professionals, educated youth and social volunteers of the organization realize that there deliverance rest in them. These educated young men and women got together in 2000 and formed an organization by the name of “Society for Human and Institutional Development”. SHID was registered on 14th May 2005, under the Societies Act of 1860 NWFP. The NGO mobilized its internal and external resources and funded number of development and humanitarian activities with the financial support of national and international donor agencies. Now the NGO is making headway with the help of development and humanitarian organizations to carry out developmental and humanitarian initiatives to redress the human sufferings and provide them sustainable community development solutions to their problems.
