Gspca (Goa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)

The GSPCA is a non-profit animal welfare organisation based in Salvador-do-Mundo, Goa, working for the rescue and treatment of injured and stray animals.

1. To provide shelter and medical facilities to all animals in need, by virtue of age, infirmity, injury, abuse or calamity

2. To spread awareness about zoonotic diseases (e.g. Rabies) through free anti-rabies vaccination camps

3. To reduce the stray dog population through ABC (Animal Birth Control)

The Goa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was set up in 2000 and opened its shelter and hospital in Torda, Goa in March 2002, with the help of the central Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and is recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India. It is registered under the Societies Act, and with the Income Tax authorities as an approved charitable institution. Its Chairman, Lynn de Souza, a well known advertising professional, is also a certified veterinary nurse trained in Australia, a master trainer for the AWBI, and a life member of the Bombay SPCA and of PFA Goa.
