Friends of Animals in Marshall County Humane Association

Humane Association in Marshall County TN formed to operate a humane and caring shelter that will give aid to unwanted, abandoned, and mistreated animals.

The mission of the Friends of Animals in Marshall County Humane Association is to operate a humane and caring shelter that will give aid to unwanted, abandoned, and mistreated animals in Marshall County TN. We will strive to provide information for humane treatment of animals and provide education regarding this throughout the Marshall County TN area. We will strive to be a voice for dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals in Marshall County TN.

We are a group of animal welfare advocates in our county. The city run shelter has been home to the stray dogs in Marshall County since the 1970s, but no cats. For years this facility has been used more as a temporary holding facility until a dogs time by law came to an end.

With the help of many groups, and the go ahead by several city officials, volunteers were allowed back in the shelter. Hands on evaluating and marketing of the dogs has now created a working wheel of a machine, and euthanasia rates which used to be as high as 90% are now very low with dogs in our care finding rescue or forever homes. In 2013 five dogs were euth due to non adoption. In 2014 we have had one. These dogs were all deemed unadoptable by our ACOs.

Since the existing facility is not ours to run, the next step is to construct a new facility where we can take in not only dogs, but cats and other animals also. This new building will be a state of the art facility for adoptions and all vetting will be done before the pets are adopted out. It will truly be a community driven operation.

With our Board of Directors now formed, our next goal is to complete the filing of our 501c3 and start on funding for a new facility, where one of our goals is to operate as close to a No Kill facility as possible. Our board is made up of 3 area veterinarians, the Volunteer Coordinator from our existing shelter, an Animal Rescue Assistance Team Tennessee Board member, a PAWS Now Board member, and 3 animal welfare advocates from different perspectives in the community.

Help us reach that goal by donating to our cause. We cannot get there without your help. Donations can be made through the Donate tab at the top of this page. Our big fundraising event is Bark in the Park held in May. We also hope to arrange more benefits and fundraisers throughout the year, as well as seek funding through grants.

Several of our dogs have gone on to live amazing lives, from Police Canines to therapy dogs, and so much more.

We owe it to the stray and neglected animals in our county to provide them with this new facility, giving them a second chance at a new life off the streets and out of the current small and out of date shelter.
Friends of Animals in Marshall County is a registered TN Non-Profit Corporation and are currently filing for our 501c3 status.
