We are a No-Kill shelter. We were founded in 1975 by a group of local people. We still remain the only Shelter in our County. We are a 501C3 non profit.

The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley was founded by a group of residents of Schoharie County who were disturbed by the plight of many starved,abused and stray animals in this area. ASSV is a not for profit organization. It is comprised of volunteers members and Board of Directors, with the exception of Shelter Manager and kennel workers. The goal of ASSV is to alleviate stray animals suffering and to maintain shelter to house, feed and care for these animals until safe and loving homes are found for them. ASSV strives to educate the public to spay or neuter their pets to eliminate the problem of unwanted offspring

"We are a no-kill shelter, and do not breed discriminate. Ours is the only shelter in our county for both cats and dogs. We are funded by donations, and pay for our veterinary care and medications. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with all donations being tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law."
