Redlands Animal Shelter

Mission: To provide a safe, healthy and loving environment for lost, stray or unwanted animals.

The Redlands Police Department Animal Control Unit provides animal control services to Redlands residents 5 days a week. Officers patrol the streets and respond to calls for service to assist with animal related problems.

The public may view animals housed at the facility. Potential adopters may request to handle animals they are interested in adopting. The shelter also provides a variety of educational programs. The Shelter mission is to provide the City with quality service while meeting the needs of the public and maintaining a healthful, happy environment for the many stray & homeless animals acquired.

The shelter is open to the public Tues-Fri from 10am-5pm & Saturday from 10am-4pm. The shelter is closed Sundays & Mondays. The shelter is closed for City holidays. Telephones are answered from 8:30am Tues-Fri & 8am on Saturdays until closing each day. For an emergency after office hours, call Redlands Police Department Dispatch at (909) 798-7681 x1.

Report Found Animals
If you have found an animal don't want to turn it over to Redlands Animal Control, you are required to notify the Shelter so that staff can place the description and other information about the animal in the lost/found book. You are also required to place an ad in the newspaper (free), advertising the found animal. You must make an honest attempt to locate the owner.

The Kennels:
The public is welcome to tour our kennel and cattery areas to view our guests. Whether you are looking for your lost animal or for an animal to adopt, we are happy to assist you in any way that we can. If your lost animal is not found in our shelter, we encourage you to fill out a lost animal report. We may be able to locate the animal for you and reunite you with your pet.

If you are looking to adopt, shelter staff or a volunteer will assist you in handling the animal you are interested in. Dogs may be taken by leash to our adoption viewing pens. There you will be able to socialize with the dog before making your decision to adopt. Cats may be handled inside the cattery, with doors closed of course, to enjoy the cat snuggled up in your arms.

Field Service: Animal Control Officers respond to a variety of calls for service. Officers enforce municipal codes as well as State and Federal laws pertaining to animals. Officers handle a variety of both domestic and wild animals. They patrol the city streets and pick up or impound dogs running at large, dead animals, injured or aggressive animals; handle reports of animal cruelty or neglect, animal welfare concerns, animals in distress, noisy animals, and animal bites. Officers issue citations for violations, write crime reports, handle investigations, and other miscellaneous reports.

Licensing
If you reside inside the City limits and own a dog, you must secure a City dog license for your pet. Law requires your dog to be licensed by four (4) months of age. You must obtain a State-approved rabies vaccination for your dog administered by a licensed veterinarian. The vet will provide you with a rabies certificate. This certificate must be presented to the City Treasurer’s office as proof of vaccination when you purchase your dog’s license. The City Treasurer’s Office is located at 35 Cajon St., Suite 15B, and can be reached by calling (909) 798-7544. This first vaccination will be good for a 12-month period. The license will also be good for one year. When the dog is re-vaccinated, the vaccine will protect your pet for a three-year period but a City license must be purchased yearly. The license fee for a one year period is $23 for unaltered and $11.50 for altered

Your City license assists in providing proof of vaccination and helps to identify your animal should your dog be impounded. Shelter staff will be able to trace the license number directly to you and be able to notify you immediately that your dog has been picked up. You then can be reunited with your animal quickly.

Adoptions
You may choose to adopt from a large population of animals at our shelter. All animals adopted that are two (2) months of age or older are sent a veterinary hospital to be surgically altered prior to the new owner taking possession of the new pet. The new pet owner then goes directly to the animal hospital to collect their animal and no additional fees are owed unless they make prior arrangements for additional services. The City of Redlands pays any cost above the deposit paid by the adoptee to cover the total cost of the surgery. You may choose to pay by cash or check for your adoption.

Adoption fees for dogs:
All dogs regardless of age adopt out at the following rate:
Adoption: $12
Vaccination: $23
Spay/Neuter deposit: $51
Total: $86

Adoption fees for cats:
All cats regardless of age adopt out at the following rate:
Adoption: $7
Vaccination: $15
Spay/Neuter deposit: $28

Reclaims
If your pet should be impounded at the shelter, fees will be incurred to reclaim your animal. These fees cover the cost of the impoundment, board, vaccinations, and care of the animal while housed at the shelter. You possibly may also be issued a citation* for allowing your dog to run freely off your property or for lack of a rabies vaccination or license.

Dogs:
Apprehension:
$20 Altered
$35 Unaltered
Board: $10 (per day)
Vaccination: $23
Dogs are given a vaccination upon impoundment to protect them due to the exposure to other dogs already housed at the shelter and from exposure from running loose on the street.
*If a citation is issued for any violation, a court date is set for your appearance. Additional fees could be imposed by the court.

Cats:
Apprehension: $10
Board: $10 (per day)
Vaccination: $15 (3-way)

Owner Releases
If you are a resident of the City of Redlands and need to give up your animal for adoption, you may bring the animal into the shelter or request that the animal be picked up from your home. Those animals suitable for adoption are made immediately available for adoption, signature requested, but a guarantee is not given in finding the pet a new home. The time period that an animal is maintained at the shelter is undeterminable. Many factors are taken into consideration before the animal is chosen to be humanely euthanized. Our shelter has a successful adoption rate but guarantees simply cannot be made.

Canine:
$30 brought into the shelter by the owner.
$35 picked up from the home by Animal Control.
*You will be asked to fill out a pet profile on your animal. This information will assist shelter staff in finding your dog a suitable new home.

$35 picked up from home by Animal Control.

Euthanasia

Volunteers

If it is agreed that you are to become a shelter volunteer, you become an important part in helping our facility provide the best care possible for our many stray or unwanted animals. You may choose to walk our dogs, bathe our dogs, socialize with our cats, and assist in other ways too.
