Salem Play Area for Canine Exercise (SPACE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as an advisory board to the City of Salem, MA Park, Recreation and Community Services department on behalf of members of the Salem Dog Park located at Leslie's Retreat Park in Salem, MA. The park is funded by Pooch Pass sales, private and corporate donations, and SPACE fundraisers. SPACE works with the city to coordinate regular park maintenance, such as waste removal, weeding, lawn mowing and repairs. We also oversee long-term needs such as resurfacing and lighting.

SPACE was started in 2005, with a mission to find a location and raise money for a fenced-in, off-leash dog park. After a lot of work and a tremendous amount of fundraising, we were finally able to raise the $12,300 needed to install the fence at Leslie’s Retreat Park. In September 2006, the dog park was born!

The SPACE Board of Directors meets once a month and the meeting is open to all members of the park.
