Mettacats & Dogs Sanctuary (MCDS), a non profit organisation, aims to provide loving care to all the injured and abused cats and dogs that enter its premises. It also aims to find forever homes for rehabilitated cats and dogs. At present, the sanctuary is home to about 150 cats and 40 dogs.

Founded by Lee Siew Ying in December 1999, this sanctuary is mostly self-funded, but the mounting vet bills, cost of food and supplies mean that the shelter depends heavily on sponsors of food and donations from the public.

"Metta", meaning "loving kindness" in the Pali language, says much about the relationship between Siew Ying and the animals under her care. She goes to the sanctuary everyday without fail to attend to the animals, ensuring that they live comfortably, especially those who are sickly or in their twilight years. Daily tasks include preparing food, cleaning litter trays, washing up after meals, medicating sick cats & dogs, bringing to the vets, caring for the dying and arranging for cremation.
