Our Mission, through the promotion of education in basic humane animal care, is to relieve animal suffering and to prevent cruelty to animals.

Moving to No-Kill

We try to find a home for each animal entrusted to us. We try very, very hard.

It is the goal of Caring Hands Humane Society to become a no-kill shelter. The term "No-Kill Shelter" means a place where every adoptable and medically or behaviorally treatable companion animal is saved. In the past few years Caring Hands Humane Society has made tremendous progress towards this goal. We're not there yet, but each year we get closer.

In 2008 we saved over 83% of adoptable dogs and about 60% of adoptable cats.

In 2009 we saved just under 90% of adoptable dogs and almost 70% of adoptable cats.

Behind these statistics are thousands of individual stories. So many of these stories have
happy ending because of your help!

So many times when our resources were stretched to the limit, you came forward and brought food for the animals here so they did not go to bed hungry. You donated blankets so they were not cold. You gave them toys so they could have a little joy during their stay here. You saved their lives by providing foster homes for a few weeks until a kennel opened up, or even until they found a forever home.

The companion animals here cannot speak. So on their behalf, we thank you!

The truth is a shelter cannot achieve no-kill on its own. It takes a community. To find out how to take the next step towards saving each and every animal visit our pages about Volunteering at CHHS, providing a Foster Home, or helping through Memberships and Donations.

Remember, lives are saved one at a time!
