Spencer County Animal Shelter

Animal Shelter for Spencer County.

Spencer County Animal Shelter is a tax funded shelter for Spencer County Indiana. The shelter accepts strays and owner surrenders from Spencer County residents and law enforcement. The time an animal stays at the shelter depends on how many animals are being held. The capacity is small so we will try to move animals to new homes as quickly as possible. Euthanasia to make space will be a last resort.

Dogs may be selected from our list. You will need to come to the shelter or send payment in full prior to adopting the dog. The dog will then be transported to our local veterinarian where you will be able to pick it up after it is altered and received its rabies shot. Adoption fees include spay/neuter and rabies shot. No refunds will be made after the dog is altered. Additional shots and medical tests can be arranged with the veterinarian or those can be performed at the adoptors veterinarian.

Approved rescue groups may pull at no charge. An approved group will need to have a policy of not adopting out unaltered animals.

The shelter is bare bones as most municipal shelters are. Donations for the animals of any kind will be appreciated. Money, food, bedding, collars, leashes, food and water bowls, laundry supplies, cleaning supplies will always be in short supply.
