Our rescue is 100% volunteer based. We do not have a kennel location. All of our dogs are either in foster homes or one of two cell dog programs at two local prisons. Although we do take in owner surrenders; 90% of our dogs come from local shelters. These dogs are dogs that come in as strays or are owner surrenders that the shelters deem unadoptable on their adoption floors. Whether it is they fail behavior, or are just petrified and shut down in the shelter environment. Many we pull are older and need additional vetting such as dentals, mammary cysts (the importance of spaying!), heart murmurs, etc. Most of the dogs we pull are the ones no other rescue will step up for and they will be euthanized.

Most of our dogs go through the cell dog training/rehabilitation programs prior to adoption. The dogs live with the inmates 24/7 for however long they need to transition them into new homes. On average 4-6 weeks. The inmates are selected to be dog handlers under careful screening and go through a probationary period. They also have requirements to meet under the program in combination with Department of Corrections rules to stay in the program. We meet weekly with the handlers to get progress updates on the dogs, address questions, concerns, work with them on training techniques, and educate them on breeds, health issues, temperaments, behavior modification, etc.
