Dothan Animal Shelter & Adoption Center

The Dothan Animal Shelter works under the command of the Dothan Police Department. We house animals for Dothan and Houston County.

It is the mission of the Dothan Animal Shelter to protect the rights and lives of both the citizens in Dothan against vicious at-large animals and to protect the beaten, neglected and unwanted animals from their agressors. We do this by following the prescribed laws in the State and City and by transporting thousands of animals to out-of-state shelters across the United States where there is a shortfall of adoptable pets. Our agressive transport program saved over 2,600 lives in 2014 and garnered us an unbelievably low 23% euthanasia rate; unheard of in the government-run world of shelters.

We hold only one fundraiser yearly, Bark in the Park, to gather funds to purchase much-needed medicines for our housed pets. Please check our FB page "Bark in the Park Dothan" for more information.

The Dothan Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is organized and run by the Dothan, Alabama Police Department. We are responsible for the intake of stray and unwanted animals for the residents within the City limits of Dothan and most towns and cities in Houston County. The total number of intakes per year reaches 6,000.
