Recycled Rovers

Recycled Rovers & Friends No-Kill Animal Rescue Shelter is located in the Rio Grande Valley area in Texas. We rescue from local shelters, individuals and even rescue stray dogs in emergency situations. Some of these rescues are deemed un-adoptable for behavioral issues, medical history, age, size, or when space or time to hold in public facilities inevitably runs out. Many times the responsibility of responsible pet ownership was not expected and owners simply surrender their pets to local shelters.
From the moment rescued dogs join our program, they are permanent residents and NEVER have to face the option or fear of euthanasia. Our residents, affectionately called the RRF Crowd and the Kitty Crew, are ultimately transitioned to indoor living and brought to a healthy state of mind and being through veterinary visits, socialization love.
Our goal is to place adoptable dogs into “forever” homes and to maintain a comfortable, positive environment for our adoptable dogs and cats.
Volunteers and foster homes are always needed and extremely vital in helping with the long term care of the RRF Crowd!
We rely on donations from the public to keep our sanctuary running.
Donations are always needed and appreciated for the further rescue of abandoned, abused and forgotten animals from shelters and the streets of the RGV area. Your contributions help with animal population and education programs in RGV community. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your donations are tax deductible.
The nature of our business leaves us dependent on the amount of resources we have available and being a non-profit organization leaves us in a position where we often cannot afford to have paid employees and we rely heavily on volunteers. Our dedication to our cause and it’s benefit to the community keeps us inspired to endure this. We work with the local Humane Society organizations to aid in the lowering of the large numbers of animals being euthanized here in the RGV and Hidalgo County. We visit local schools to talk with students and the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter programs and other resources available to our community.
The formation of Recycled Rovers & Friends began in February 2005 by a small group of local citizens that recognized the overpopulation of stray animals in South Texas.
After rescuing a few strays from the city streets, they realized the need was critical to establish a facility where these animals could live in a caring and safe environment and no longer be classified as stray, lost or unwanted animals.
Today, this animal welfare safety refuge is known as Recycled Rovers & Friends, Our goal is to safely recover these homeless animals and to provide them with the care they will need in order to give them a second chance at life and love through our adoption and foster programs.
As a Petsmart Charities Adoption Partner and a Petco adoption partner RRF has successfully placed hundreds of dogs and cats over the years into permanent homes of their own. Many thanks to our sponsors and volunteers that dedicate so much of their time towards our rescue and adoption efforts, and for the shelter staff that have sacrificed endless hours of hard work to care for the hundreds of animals that come through our shelter over the years.
We have a wonderful facility in Donna, TX, that comfortably houses all of our canid brothers and sisters. Our facility is constantly being upgraded and we look forward to many more improvements over the years with the help of our supporters.
