Sasha's Hope and Rescue, Inc.

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer, foster home and donation based dog rescue located in Jasper, AL. We have rescued 1600+ animals since February 2014.

Though we focus a majority of our efforts on dogs in Walker County, we are committed to helping any animal in need. After all, they are unaware of their zip code. All of our partner rescues accept animals outside of their home states so this is our way of paying it forward. In addition, while our hearts lie with the stray living with mange by the roadside, we also regularly commit to puppies and adults found “Free to a Good Home” on Facebook, Craigslist and community yard sale sites. They are at risk for being irresponsibly discarded when not re homed, used for disingenuous purposes or left to languish while tethered to a tree in the backyard. Our mission is that no animal ever experience one of those fates.

Once Sasha's Hope commits to helping an animal, it is immediately moved to one of our approved foster homes if possible. Puppies are quarantined to avoid contamination of common areas with contagious disease such as parvo or coccidia. We have several dedicated and well equipped puppy fosters able to house multiple litters. We stress education and decontamination to keep our pups happy and healthy. After two weeks, puppies are integrated into common areas while healthy adult dogs are immediately placed in the middle of family life. The purpose of a foster is for them to acclimate to living with other animals, children, teach manners and get a jump start on potty or crate training. The average time in a foster home before transport is 2-4 weeks.

We are often asked why we transport animals out of state. Simply, the laws are not on our side in Alabama. There are more stringent laws that support animal welfare in our partner states. Our mission at Sasha's Hope is to deworm and vaccinate, at a minimum, while we also provide any surgery or treatment required to enable them to move on to a larger rescue commitment. Providing minimum vetting and food while awaiting transport, we spend $20/animal on average. Though we have spent $570 on one senior beagle that had been left to die in a 3x3 crate. We partner with out of state rescues that are also foster based where each animal is spay/neutered and up to date on shots before being adopted to families that submit an application and have a home visit. We have worked with groups in FL, MN, MA, PA, WI and Ontario, Canada.

In the very early morning hours, we meet fosters to pick up our babies and drive to Birmingham for them to catch a ride by van to one of several airports. We utilize a program called Pilots N Paws which involves pilots whom volunteer their time and planes to fly animals all over the US. We do place some of our adult dogs with local furever families on a case by case basis.

We are always in need of more fosters, transporters and volunteers. All vetting, medication, food, etc. is provided for our fosters. Ask us how you can help!
