Spoiled Acres Rescue Inc

Spoiled Acres Rescue Inc is a 501(c)3 rescue that specializes in large animals. We mostly take in horses, but we also have areas for other animals. We are located in Aurora, IN.

To help all animals in need and make sure that they end up in a loving forever home. To promote animal welfare through education and action.

While we primarly take in large animals, we also end up with anything that the shelter can not take. We have had rabbits, dogs, cats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, horses, and donkeys. We have an abuse/neglect investigator that has been through many training classes, including the Indiana BOAH and Kentucky Horse Council training. Our investigator continues her education on a regular basis.

We have been involved in several abuse/neglect cases. The most current being 5/7/2011. We have been involved in many cases that just involved owner education. We have been involved in some that have involved seizure of animals. We have also been involved in some where owners surrendered before charges were filed.

We not only take in animals from abuse/neglect cases, we also take in owner surrenders. We have been known to take the "left overs" from area auctions when we have space. From auctions, we only take in the animals that have no bids. We did purchase a skinny hinny one day because we overheard the top bidder ($25) on his cell phone with his wife. He told her that he was buying a mule for them to ride this weekend....we outbid him because this "mule" was a small hinny with a body scale of 2.0. Our winning bid was ($40). When the conversation was overheard our abuse/neglect investigator could be heard saying something like "you will ride him in that condition over my dead body" then the bidding started and was somewhat out of contol!

We had one horse placed behind our gate. We later found out from a friend of a friend...that the horse was in a place that was being investigated for abuse/neglect in a neighboring state. They took their animal from a barn and dropped it at our place before it was included in the investigation. The horse was not in terrible shape, so we did not contact the authorities in the other state. They had enough on their hands. We try to work with other agencies and other states. Our goal is to promote animal welfare through teamwork!

We try to avoid cats and dogs, but they end up visiting us too. We have had some dumped. We have had some taken when we take horses. We have even helped out some other rescues that specialize in dogs and cats. If we have space, we will try to help. When we are full, we have to turn them away.
