Turkish Goldens - Rescued by RAGOM

RAGOM is rescuing and rehoming unwanted, abused, neglected and displaced Golden Retrievers who are living in the forests, streets and shelters in Turkey.

RAGOM’s mission is to rescue and rehome unwanted, abused, neglected and displaced Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes, and locate permanent homes for them. We advocate responsible pet ownership and support animal abuse and neglect prevention programs, as well as spay/neuter initiatives.

Golden Retrievers are running free in the streets and countryside of Istanbul. Once a status symbol, Golden Retrievers became very common and lost that coveted status, and many of these gentle dogs were turned loose in the streets. An American traveling in Turkey took notice of these dogs and also learned that municipal shelters were full of Golden Retrievers. There was no place to go for these dogs.

Recognizing their plight, the traveler contacted Adopt a Golden of Atlanta (AGA) a Golden Retriever rescue in Atlanta, Georgia. AGA mobilized and began rescue efforts earlier this year. Learning there were more Goldens in need, RAGOM reached out to AGA to help. Our story begins with 15 dogs from Turkey who joined RAGOM on Friday, October 16, 2015.
