✋🛑We urgently need your help. We have run out of foster homes, and we have dogs who need urgent placement. This is a 911. Would you please apply right away to give loving dogs a home for the holidays? Rescues across the nation are struggling right now due to a lack of foster homes and adopters.

We want to continue to say YES to dogs and cats in need, but we need your help. We ask that you take a leap into love and endless doggie kisses and become a foster today. Some of our dogs only need a place to stay for a couple of days.

You have the opportunity to be the bridge between the rescue and the forever home. This is one of the greatest gifts you can give to an animal in need.

Say hello to HELOISE! Ugh, look at her smile.😍 Heloise always makes my days a bit brighter. Heloise is a one-year-old, 25-pound pumpkin made of good vibes and sunshine.☀️

This little love bug wants to be everybody's friend, whether a dog, cat, or person! She walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys time in her crate, and loves being pampered with affection. She's a total goofball who gets the zoomies every now and then, and boy can she fly! When Heloise has alone time, she entertains herself by playing around and throwing toys in the air. An independent princess. She's a clever, low-maintenance chicklet who loves belly rubs and naps in the shade.

On any given day, 25-35 dogs live at the Rescue Center while waiting for their forever homes. By purchasing items from their wishlist, you will contribute to bettering their lives while they are here, helping them feel even more at home.

Our smiliest senior lady Marina is looking for her forever people. This little butter biscuit is a ray of sunshine.

She’s a ten-year-old dog who is part Amstaf and part social butterfly.

Marina is polite, gentle, and likes everyone she meets. Want to befriend our Marina? Rub her belly and toss a cozy blanket on top of her to snuggle under. She’ll fall in love.

She knows basic commands, is house trained, loves being outdoors, and walks politely on a leash.

The Power of One

"To get a COMMUNITY on track requires a spark-sometimes borne of anger, other times of compassion, most of the time combination of the two--which can ignite the fire of change."

A few weeks ago, it was the story of Goose and Maverick: We were alerted of an abandoned house in Mississippi, where the desperate cries from the two of them could be heard from the road.

We immediately took them into our care and promised them that they would never be alone again. As a result, maverick and Goose have been receiving top-notch medical care and lots of love.

Giving Tuesday (a day of giving to a charity you believe in) is November 30th. Do you want to make an impact? You can create a fundraiser either on Facebook:

How to set up a personal fundraiser:
1. Start on our Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs Facebook main page.
2. Click “Fundraisers” under our cover photo.
3. Go to “Create a Fundraiser" and click" "Raise Money.”
4. Write a short paragraph telling people why Second Chance Rescue NYC is important to you and that you are raising funds for Giving Tuesday.
5. Set your goal to what you want to try to raise for Giving Tuesday (November 30th).

There are days and weeks when rescue work is heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, and exhausting. And then we have days like this. Days that make every tear, every sleepless night, every hard day WORTH it. Days when we find out that our 14-year-old boy Beast found his forever home.

Beast was surrendered to our care in January when his owner passed away. He came to us with his daughter Xena who was adopted shortly after she came into our care. For nearly a year, we tried to find Beast a home, but nothing worked out.

For months, Beast bounced from home to home of temporary fosters - people were kind enough to offer a senior dog a place to stay, if only for a short while.

Two months ago, Beast landed in the home of Karen, who could only foster Beast for two weeks. Those two weeks finished, and she hugged him goodbye and wished him the best of luck. Well, at the beginning of November, Beast needed another foster, and Karen graciously offered up her home once again. A few days later, she asked Beast to stay.

This is why we do what we do, my friends. Beast is 14 years old. We hold our senior dogs in an exceptionally special part of our hearts, and when someone sees them for the true treasures they are, we celebrate.

“After fostering Beast a second time, my husband and I decided to adopt Beast. He is the sweetest boy, a true gentleman, and just an amazing dog. He is leaving his Brooklyn life behind and starting a new adventure in the suburbs of long island. At almost 15 years old, he still enjoys daily walks, sniffing around the yard, playing with his toys, and is obsessed with car rides. He smiles when he sleeps, and now he is starting to cuddle. Beast is always up for an adventure, especially if it includes a car ride.”

Tonight, we celebrate your happiness, Beast. We celebrate our volunteers, our fosters, our vets, our friends, and our followers. We celebrate because today BEAST won. So, enjoy the rest of your brilliant, shining life, dear friend. We love you.

We want to share an uplifting update with you on Journey. Earlier this week, we found Journey on the horror house property with three gunshot wounds. Journey has shown a resilience that always surprises us.

Despite everything she has been through, she continues to recovery beautifully, her spirit is rebuilding right before our eyes, and her beautiful personality is starting to shine through.

She does not let her past define her. She’s ready for love and healing. Today Journeys neck drains were removed, which is one step closer to closing the door to her torturous past. She is still on cage rest with short walks outside for fresh air and to do her business. The staff at the vet clinic say that Journey is very mellow. She is sweet, kind, and polite. Her gratitude is easily seen in her eyes and felt in her soft kisses. She is amazing, and we are so glad she is ours.

Once Journey is medically cleared, she will be available for adoption. Please consider applying for her today so that she has a home to go to once discharged.

We’ve got JAMES in the building for our #SeniorSunday breakdown!
Oooooh, look at this salt & pepper boy. James is a ten-year-old Shepard mix with a laid-back disposition and fox-like tail. He enjoys the little things like leisurely walks, sniffing the air, taking in his surroundings, and rainy days where he can feel the raindrops on his fur.

James’ love language is Quality Time -- One on one time spent together; sharing experiences as an expression of love. He wants to be a companion so badly. He wants to lay by your feet while you read the newspaper. He wants you to smile when you hear the sound of his tail slapping against the sofa when you come home from work. He wants to remind you to take a break from life and go for a walk in the crisp afternoon air. He wants to be your best bud.

James is a loving, loyal, handsome pet who walks well on a leash, does well with other large dogs, and needs a home. So if you’re looking for a solid, reliable, always-happy-to-see-you, best friend kind of dog… then there is no better than James.

“This is Bashe - Bella’s (Jenna’s) mama! I had seen a post on social media that there was an adoption event being held at a Subaru in Brewster & that Bella would be in attendance.

I read her background story and was immediately drawn to the idea of adopting her. So I figured I would make the drive up to check it out, meet & greet other doggies and play it by ear, not really in the mindset of committing to adopting.

So when I arrived, I said hello to a couple of other dogs but saw Bella out of the corner of my eye.

I went over, and the volunteer said I should pick her up and say hello. As soon as I picked her up, Bella rested her head on my shoulder so sweetly & calmly. I was hooked then and there.

We walked together a little bit, and I sat down on the floor; & Bella just plopped right into my lap, laid her head right over my leg, and let me pet her for about 15 minutes straight.

I could sense she was the literal definition of a sweetheart but also simultaneously resilient! I felt this intangible connection as she rested in my lap, not entirely sure how to describe it ~ & the rest is history!

Life now with her is fantastic - she is the sweetest, most well-behaved, and social puppy I’ve ever encountered! We go on runs by the bay together, say hello to everybody & every dog we pass by, she is an absolute pleasure.

Many people don’t realize and are shocked when they find out she is a tripod after taking a break from running full speed with me and jumping up excitedly and kissing them. Her abilities are endless & she is extraordinary. I genuinely love and adore her.”
