Izzi Foundation is a Nevada-based 501(c)(3) charity organization that helps benefit no-kill pet shelters and spay/neuter programs.

The Humane Society of the United States estimated in November 2009 that approximately three to four million animals are killed yearly in shelters across the United States. No-kill shelters here in the valley are trying to end this killing by increasing the demand for shelter dogs and cats. In addition to helping to decrease the amount of new born cats and dogs, The Izzi Foundation also helps promote the demand for pets already in shelters.

The no-kill concept received a big boost in 1998 when the state of California passed three pieces of legislation directed to reduce animal suffering at shelters in California. No-kill shelters receive a financial boost with the establishment of various funds, grants, and individual donations.

Our founder, Terry Mesch, was critically injured in a work accident back in 2006. As he lay in the hospital bed, re-learning how to speak, eat, and accomplish everyday tasks, he met many influential people, including Roy Horn, the famous tiger trainer who was recovering from his infamous 2003 mauling. He was also blessed with meeting a little girl that changed his life. Her name was Izzi. She also was battling through physical therapy, recuperating from her own injuries. She and Terry hit it off from the start. They shared their stories, bonded, and leaned on each other for moral support. Terry learned that Izzi loved also animals, and their family volunteered as a border for homeless pets. Izzi's dream was a Larbodoodle puppy from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. But alas, with mounting medical bills and other obligations, her parents couldn't make that happen. As they both made the arduous journey back to getting better, Terry was encouraged when Izzi was finally ready to go home. Terry made a promise to her that he would start a non-profit charity in honor of Izzi and her dream of a puppy. And he did. That's how Izzi Foundation was born.
