Fiona Animal Refuge of Hidalgo

Saving Dogs in the Potrero.

Tax ID 45-2428179 A 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) Public Charity

The Fiona Animal Shelter supports the idea that the source of abuse, abandonment, mistreatment and cruelty, which most animals are victims of in Mexico,is that the people are not taught how to care for their animals and they do not have the resources or the availability of veterinarian services and basic animal care products. Because of this, we are going to reach out to the community for their help while we provide free spay and neuter, flea and tick medication and when necessary food and shelter.

We are 2 retired rock climbing women who have lived in Mexico for many winters and witnessed the horrible conditions of the dogs of Hidalgo.

In 2011, we decided to change that when we found a dog chained to a tree and almost starved to death. We named her Fiona and became determined to change things for the better.

We began asking climbers for donations and by July 2012, we had becomes a registered 501c3 charity.

In April 2013, our dream became a reality. Fiona Animal Refuge opened its doors with 19 kennels, office and surgery. To see this beautiful facility really happen and the town embrace our vision is a miracle.
