Bronx Tails Cat Rescue

All volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 cat rescue (NOT a shelter) with the mission to improve the lives of feral & stray street cats through TNR.

Bronx Tails Cat Rescue's mission has always been to improve the lives of feral and stray street cats. From the onset, this has involved as much Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as we could cram into our lives, bathrooms, spare rooms or whatever any of us could manage to use when the cats returned from surgery and needed a spot to recover in before they could be safely released.
For the first six years of our TNR efforts, we never managed to find the time to figure out and file the paperwork to allow us to become a legitimate 501(c)(3) charity. A few years ago a kind, smart attorney offered to take on the task. Thanks again, Chuck.
Our next good idea was to have three of us buy a 3-family house with a basement or garage space that we could dedicate to post-surgery recovery. But this was in 2009 and the Economy said "Nuh-uh. Nope. Don't think so." to this plan. But two of us convinced the third would-be homeowner that she could get her own place. A friend found a hovel-for-sale in an unfamiliar neighborhood. There was potential in the hovel and our very generous friends at Classic Restoration ripped, stripped, and refashioned it into a cozy little house with a basement set up to efficiently and comfortably hold cats before and after surgery.
Our focus on TNR continues, despite the vagaries of life, crazy weather and the sad fact that there are only 24 hours in a day. Now that we have recovery space - and Sergeant Lou joined our crew - we have also been able to take in sick and injured street cats and care for them until they are healthy.
It is a relief and privilege to be able to take in gravely ill and elderly feral cats so that they might be warm and comfortable in their last few hours, or days. This is our girl Multi's second winter of "last few days!" We've done our best to give many of these cats some comfort when their time came to cross over the "Rainbow Bridge." We've recovered many cats with horrific injuries from cars, raccoons, people, dogs, and everything else that happens in their sometimes perilous lives. We also have a few permanent residents with special needs and conditions that make them unadoptable, but not unlovable.
More temporarily (we hope!) in residence and in foster care is an ever-shifting crew of wonderful adoptable cats and kittens just waiting for the right person - please tell your friends! Our fosterers take some of these cats into their homes, treat them like family, and cope with and promote our efforts to link them to forever homes and families.
Our efforts to provide medical care to these sick, injured, elderly, and adoptable cats has shrunk the space we have available for TNR recovery. To address this, we are yet again reconfiguring the basement to allow us to do even more TNR in the coming year, in addition to providing care that will relieve the suffering of the sick and injured cats who cross our paths.

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: Odin was rescued living under a car in the Bronx with his sibling Blue. He suffers from a horrible eye infection and will likely lose the eye despite our best efforts. Eye infections are easily treated with antibiotics if caught early enough, but this is what happens to outdoor kittens with no access to medical care. Please spay and neuter your pets to help end needless suffering like this! Odin is otherwise healthy, friendly, and now safe.

👉 bit.ly/btcradopt 👈 These rescued "Paw Patrol Panthers" are a set of 3 kittens (DOB 8/16/21) looking for their forever homes! They must be adopted in pairs, or (if solo) into a home with an existing cat-friendly cat or kitten. The three are Rubble (medium haired black male with white tail tip), Marshall (medium haired black female), and Skye (short haired black male). All are super sweet, playful / energetic, and love people!

These kittens are healthy and up-to-date on vetting: they have been fully treated for parasites, vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV and Leukemia. They are getting neutered/spayed next week.

Adopters complete an application, have basic references checked, allow a home visit via video tour (to ensure conditions are safe and reasonable), and pay an adoption fee ($150). Their foster (located in Norwalk, CT) is able to do video or in-person (masked and vaccinated) meet-and-greet with approved applicants.

Adopters are allowed an up-to-2-week-long tryout period to confirm it is a good match for everyone. If not, the cats(s) will be retrieved and the adoption fee will be returned in full. We will also help with tips and methods for introducing the cat(s) to other pets, if needed.

Sweet Geoffrey's owner went into the hospital and never made it back home. 💔 Geoffrey was being fed 2x a week by a friend and thankfully he reached out to us for help. Geoffrey's a tripod and we don't know what his past injury may have been, but he gets around just fine. He is fully vetted and looking for his forever home 🏡 He would prefer to be the center of your attention or placed with a gentle friendly cat.

Another collar cat! 😩😡Poor Mr. Burl must've had that collar on for several years. We believe he either outgrew the collar or happened to get caught somewhere and struggled to free himself. He is finally free of that filthy old collar and healing nicely.

Please do not put collars on your cats, this is an example of what can happen even if the cat lives indoors. If you do purchase a collar consider a breakaway or velcro collar.

UPDATE: Colleen our “collar cat” is completely healed and ready for adoption! She showed up on the doorstep of a Good Samaritan at the end of August with an old dirty collar wrapped not just around her neck but also under her armpit. It had obviously been there for a very long time and cut all the way through the skin down to the bone. She had surgery to remove the dead tissue and suture up the deep wounds. Colleen is super affectionate and loving. She enjoys petting, kisses, cuddles, and really any type of affection! She is a good friend to humans and other cats. She will be a loyal and devoted companion to a special family...one that will never put her in harms way again!
