Marathon Humane Society

The Marathon Humane Society is a 100% volunteer, NO KILL, registered charity located in Marathon, Ontario.

We are a 100% volunteer, NO KILL animal rescue!

Located on the north shore of Lake Superior, the Marathon Humane Society opened its doors on July 27, 2000, to rescue and care for abused, abandoned and surrendered dogs and cats in Marathon, Ontario and surrounding areas.

Our goal is to find loving, qualified homes for each cat and dog, while ensuring that the animal and new home are a good fit. To date we have placed over 690 animals in new, forever homes.

Animals are de-wormed, receive most vaccinations and adults are spayed or neutered, all for low adoption fees of $40 for cats and $50 for dogs.

Our shelter is financed by community donations and fundraising. We are a Canada Revenue Agency registered charity. As such, we are able to issue TAX RECEIPTS! To make a donation by credit card, please click the Donate Now tab on our opening page or go to Cheques can be mailed to P.O. Box 1329, Marathon, ON, P0T 2E0.

We also accept donations dry cat food and clumping kitty litter.

To receive detailed information about the animals please call Adoption/Surrender Coordinator Linda Gagnon at (807) 229-6306. From 8:45 am to 5:45 pm weekdays, you will get voicemail. Please leave a message.

We are in need of foster homes and are always looking for volunteers. Because we are a NO KILL shelter, you never have to say goodbye - until they find their forever homes!

We use local vet services as much as possible, but sometimes have to take animals to Thunder Bay for care. If you could drop off or pick up an animal for us from the Northwestern Veterinary Hospital on Oliver Road, we will provide the carrier and set up times to suit your schedule. Please call (807) 229-6306 if you can help.

The Marathon Humane Society works in cooperation with the Town of Marathon and is grateful for their in-kind assistance.
