Haven For Horses Sanctuary & Rescue

Haven For Horses Sanctuary is an equine rescue. Our goal is to create a refuge for abused and neglected horses and stop them from being sent to slaughter.

Mission:

Our mission is simple, to be a haven for abused and neglected horses. As such, we are providing a service that is lacking within our community resources where there are no animal care/control organizations working at the governmental level and thus rescue organizations must fill that need. We are both an equine sanctuary and a rescue offering support for abused and neglected horses, as well as other large animals that may be brought to our center.

Goals:

1. To provide equine rescue within our county of record as well as around the state of Texas as deemed necessary for rescue efforts including abuse, neglect, and emergency situations.
2. To provide an equine sanctuary where abused and neglected horses are given proper medical treatment, rehabilitated and maintain a permanent home for them when it has been deemed that these horses are not able to be rehomed.
3. To provide an equine rescue where abused and neglected horses, are given proper medical treatment, rehabilitated and then transition them to other forever homes so that we can continue our rescue efforts further.
4. Work with local law enforcement authorities to provide a temporary means of shelter and care in the case of an emergency situation within our county or the state where equine facilities are required.
5. To help stop kill buyers from purchasing horses and sending them to slaughter and selling them as meat overseas. Horses that are purchased this way are not protected by livestock humane care laws and are subjected to cruel, inhumane treatment.
6. To provide educational and training resources to new horse owners to help them better manage their responsibility as a horse owner helping to stop this cycle of abuse and neglect.
7. To provide outreach services on the humane care of horses and the necessity to create an emergency plan when it comes to caring for these animals. This includes creating an emergency food program to feed horses for people who have experienced financial hardship. This will ensure that more horse remain with their owners and help reduce some of the other issues that we see from an equine rescue perspective.
8. To provide a center where people have the ability to learn and interact with horses on a personal level to ensure that if they decide to adopt/foster/purchase a horse, they are more educated and prepared to handle the responsibility
