Happy Paws Dog Rescue

With so many dogs across Bulgaria without homes, we plan to take in as many as we can and find them new homes.

We are located in the itty bitty village of Smolnik, Bulgaria - population about 50! This country has quite a large amount of dogs without homes and, lately, too many of those poor babies have been killed, usually poisoned. There are also many that are taken in by gypsies and used to train their dogs how to fight. We’ve learned that these gypsies will give these poor dogs up, but with a price (normally about $15-$20).
There are a few groups and individuals in the country who have been taking these dogs in and finding them new homes, but space is limited and they are beginning to run out of room for them! We are animal lovers and, hearing so many stories about what is happening to the dogs here, makes us want to do whatever we can to help as many as we can! We have over 1000 square meters of land. With our home taking up about 100 and the areas for our 7 dogs (our family!) taking up about 200, we have so much more space available to build additional areas to house many more dogs! We are definitely not looking to build a kennel!!! We want to create a comfortable environment for any dogs that we are able to bring to our home.
We are asking for donations to aid us in purchasing some metal fence, wood, insulation, and other materials needed to build dog houses in separate areas. We have converted our “barn” into rooms for some of our dogs, with fenced-in spaces for them to spend some time sun-bathing or releasing some energy! Our other dogs roam freely in our front and back yards doing their guardian-dog duties. At the moment, we have only one available room in the “barn” for the rescue dogs. This room needs a little work done to help insulate it because I think this room is better fit for small dogs who are more sensitive to the winter weather here in Bulgaria.
Any help is much needed for this project and I’ve given you options on the donation page that allows you to agree to donate funds only once, every month, or every 3 months. This will be an on-going endeavor, so we will always be happy to accept donations to help with food, parasite pills, flea & tick treatment, dog shampoos, and any other items or medical care needed for the furries until we can find them new homes!
We will be adopting the rescued dogs out to suitable homes and I will share pictures of the dogs and the progress of the expansion project. Thank you to all who can help support our cause!
