The mission of the Humane Society of Highlands County, Inc., (HSHC) is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted animals, to furnish medical and other services for the care of companion animals, to care for, protect, and find quality homes for the homeless and neglected companion animals, to advocate animal welfare, community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals, for the mutual benefit of both.

The Humane Society operates 100% by donation. We are a no-kill for space shelter. We often take in the sick, hurt, unwanted, abused and lonely. We are the last chance for our animals to find loving homes. We comfort them, we heal their wounds, we listen to their cries and we cry with them. We listen to why people feel the need to leave them with us, some it real, most of it not. We carry the animals to the kennels and watch as they turn back looking for their family. We close the door and hear their cries, watch them shake in fear. They soon learn we are their family until the day a new family sees the wonderful animal they are. We then shed tears of joy as we watch them walk out the door. Then they look back at us, wondering why we aren't coming with them. We pray that their new family will love and care for them. We then wait for the next animal to fill their kennel, and cycle starts over.
Every Tues. we offer low cost vaccinations, no appointment needed. Appointments for spay/neuter can be made by calling 863-214-6508.
