Belmont County Animal Rescue League
The Belmont County Animal Rescue League in St. Clairsville, Ohio strives to provide resources and educational opportunities to new and existing pet owners.
As part of this mission, BCARL provides educational information in order to:
Better understand canine behavior and personality
Develop methods to measure and improve welfare in a shelter, rescue or foster program
Identify problem behaviors and implement behavioral interventions
Help shelters, rescues and foster programs make successful matches
Founded in 1974, the Belmont County Animal Rescue League in St. Clairsville, Ohio was organized by three caring and compassionate citizens of the community who saw a need for structured animal welfare programs. BCARL Founders John Pickenpaugh, Dr. McBride DVM and Elaine Barnes believed that to have an impact on serious animal issues in Belmont County they would need to focus on developing innovative resources and services that would have a lasting effect and save lives.
As part of this mission, BCARL provides educational information in order to:

Help shelters, rescues and foster programs make successful matches

Poor Jack Jack doesn't understand why he's been returned. He's a laid back guy that enjoys a good nap, so he's the perfect cat! He was adopted into a wonderful home in March and had 6 months of the good life. Unfortunately, his new mama got covid and is very sick. She is uable to care for him. It would mean the world to her and to us if we could find him a loving forever home. Please share Jack so we can send him home. ❤

When my mom was pregnant with me, she got panleukopenia. Feline panleukopenia is a highly contagious viral disease of cats and is caused by the feline parvovirus. The good news is that it's preventable! Make sure your cats are up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered.

So what does this have to do with me? Well, because my mom was sick, I was born with something called cerebellar hypoplasia. "Cerebellar hypoplasia is a developmental condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to develop properly. The cerebellum is the portion of the brain that controls fine motor skills, balance, and coordination. The condition is not painful or contagious."

I wobble around a lot, but otherwise, I'm a normal cat! I'm not great with stairs and walls, but nothing slows me down. I can use the litterbox, eat and drink from a bowl, play, wrestle, and do all the other normal cat stuff a cat does. Everybody at BCARL really loves me. They know the perfect home is out there, and they want me to find it. So could it be you? Would you take me home and love me and care for me? My moms at the rescue say that once you meet me, you'll fall in love. I'm a happy cat full of love and spirit.

The Belmont County Animal Rescue League is Belmont County's ONLY nonprofit dedicated solely to dealing with abused and neglected animals. We are not primarily an animal shelter, but we do provide a safe place for our rescued animals to recover before finding them a home that will give them the love and support they deserve.

Have you ever seen a cat excitedly jump up on the counter and paw at the water when you turn on a faucet? There are some cats that prefer moving water to water sitting in a dish. Of course, cats don’t have the instinct to drink much. Feral cats get most of the moisture they need from the prey they catch. Since indoor cats can’t catch prey, they need to find proper hydration via other means. And cats that prefer moving water to sitting water need a little encouragement when it comes to staying hydrated.
This is why we highlighted a kitty water fountain as a gift for our cat guests at BCARL last week. Today we're sharing the filters needed for the fountain. ❤🐾

We know this might sound like a frivolous item but in reality, rescue facilities like ours take in many animals from different environments and with different life experiences (and preferences). Autumn is a GORGEOUS Maine Coon and Domestic Long Hair mix, and she's looking for her forever family! 🐾❤️
Autumn came to us after being caged outside with five other cats and a litter of kittens. When we found her, they had no food and the litter box was full to the top. Because of her traumatic past, Autumn had a long way to go until she felt safe, but she has done so much better since arriving here.
