From Humpster to Home: This is Ducky's Story

"You read that right. No. It wasn't a typo. Humpster. As in.. he humped.. a lot.

But let's back up a second.

Ducky came into one of our partners while Pet Haven volunteers were onsite. Cue numerous texts to me - "the bitey Chihuahua foster" - to take this crazed lunatic. They actually had to put his crate inside of another crate to get him out of it and then tossed the old one because it smelled so disgusting.

I wasn't expecting to bring in a new foster that weekend but, alas, who else was going to take this crazy pants who was snapping, growling, and not letting anybody near him? Me! Ooo! Pick me!

So Ducky came home and.. drumroll.. he was totally fine.

Besides, you know, the humping, hyperactivity and marking everywhere.

He was a changed man once he was neutered. (Thank god.)

Ducky is the sweetest, snuggliest little being.. unless you're a strange man, large dog, noisy truck, or kid running.. ehhh.. semantics.

He is truly the best worst dog ever. Check out his transformation!"

We celebrated SEVENTY-EIGHT adoptions in October! Congratulations to everyone! 🎉

Remember how busy we were on Sunday?

Meet Cooper.

He is such a brave little boy. At just 10 weeks, old he survived a big scary dog attack, a 4.5 hour drive from Red Lake Reservation, and a trip to a vet clinic to have his wounds cleaned.

Cooper arrived Sunday on transport from our Northern Minnesota Rescue Partners, Leech Lake Legacy and Red Lake Rosie’s. These rescues do not have adoption programs so they depend on us to bring animals in need to our loving foster homes.

We are so happy to have Cooper and excited to watch him grow and thrive enjoying the comforts of his new foster home! His foster says he is the sweetest boy and so happy to have a soft bed of his own!

We never stop rescuing!

Sunday was a busy day for Pet Haven. A transport from Leech Lake arrived around 3pm and fosters, volunteers, and our executive director were all on hand to help transfer these sweethearts in need to a safe, warm foster home.

Most went right into foster care but a few who needed immediate medical attention went to one of our medical care partners.

We brought in puppies, kittens, adult dogs, cats, and seniors. At Pet Haven, we value all life and love them all!

"Crisis" is often the middle name in Real Rescue. We are constantly having to think fast, be adaptable, creative, and flexible; especially when a pet is in crisis and needs us.

That was the case with Charlie, an 8-year-old Poodle mix. We received a call yesterday from one of our Northern Minnesota Rescue Partners. We don't know all the details but we do know he was attacked by a larger dog and needed help.

We found a foster right away and got him approved for the medical care he needs. He will soon be in a loving foster home where he can safely recover from his wounds and feel loved.

The Pet Haven Team is made up of mostly volunteers. We operate with a very small staff. Our volunteers work so hard making sure pets like Charlie have a safe place to go. Without them, the support of our community, and individual donations we would not be able to make the amazing impact on pets and people in crisis that we do.
