The Delta Humane Society of Louisiana

The Delta Humane Society is a non profit animal welfare organization operating in the Louisiana Delta. We are foster based so have NO facility.

DHS was formed in 2008 in Northeast Louisiana to help rescue homeless and neglected animals, educate the public on the importance of spay/neuter and compassionate animal care and to promote adoption.
We do not have a shelter in our area or animal control OR another animal welfare group. All of our adoptable pets are housed in volunteers' homes. If you would like to become a foster parent for one of our pets, please contact us at help@thedeltahumanesociety.com. Without fosters, we cannot save the neglected and abandoned animals in our community. The DHS provides basic veterinary care, equipment and supplies for our fosters, as well as advice and support. All you need to provide is love.
If you can't foster, please consider donating. We are currently in need of dog food, puppy food, hard cat food, dog houses, dog kennels, crates and monetary donations. These items can be dropped off at the DHS foster farm in Rayville, Gowan and Talley Veterinary Clinic in Winnsboro or Ranea's Grooming Salon in Start. We can also arrange to have items picked up by a volunteer if needed.

DHS promotes the compassionate care of all animals. Our FB page is designed to help like minded animal lovers to connect and to aid us in our mission. Since we operate in a rural area, we concentrate on rescuing animals in need, getting them healthy and then placing them with our partner rescues in the Northeast. We always need volunteers. Our most pressing need is fosters but we need volunteers to transport food, take animals to the vets, fund raise, work on grants and any number of tasks. If you have just an hour or two a week, you could be a big help in saving lives. Just contact us and we'll put you to work at a job that you are suited for.
