Kentucky Habitat for Humanity, Inc.

Incorporated in 1993, Kentucky Habitat for Humanity supports and encourages an effective network of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity affiliates through the creation of new affiliates, resource development, advocacy, capacity building, mentoring, and prayer.

Kentucky Habitat's Mission: is to support and encourage an effective network of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity affiliates through the creation of new affiliates, resource development, advocacy, capacity building, mentoring, and prayer.

Milestones throughout our history have included:
• 1997-Jimmy Carter Work Project 'Hammering in the Hills'—which took place in Eastern,Kentucky. Over 2,000 volunteers, alongside President and Mrs. Carter, built 50 homes in Pike County, KY. A tithe check in the amount of $100,000 was taken by 20 Kentucky volunteers and presented to President Carter in 1998 at the Jimmy Carter Work Project in Popotal, Mexico.
• Special Build 2000—in Western, KY.
• Mayoral Build 2001—in conjunction with the Kentucky League of Cities, KyHFH initiated a program to involve local government leaders in the work of Habitat affiliates.
•2003-Homes and Hope Celebration—Kentucky Habitat for Humanity affiliates and volunteers came together to build and celebrate the 1,000th home, built in Franklin County, KY.
• 2005-Tsunami Response-over 100 Kentuckians, under the leadership of KyHFH and Pat Smith, traveled to India to rebuild a village of 171 homes, which was destroyed during Tsunami.—
• 2007-Katrina Relief-Kentuckians traveled to Gulfport, MS to rebuild 14 homes, which were destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.,—
•2009-Expanded our staff by 300%-from 1 FTE to 3 FTE staff to include a Director of Development and Sustainable Building Specialist.
•2010-Kentucky Restore Council formed-to work together to support and increase the capacity of the 14 Restores throughout Kentucky.
•January 2011-CDFI-certified through the US Department of Treasury as a CDFI (Community Development Financial Institute) and CDE (Community Development Entity)
2012-Became Member of Opportunity Finance Network
March 2, 2012- beginning of Long Term Recovery and disaster response in E.KY
