Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County, Inc. is an ecumenical Christian organization that is dedicated to working in partnership with families in Johnson County under the conviction that every person should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live where they feel safe and have dignity.

ABOUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF JOHNSON COUNTY

Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular

• Mission Statement: Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County, Inc. is an ecumenical Christian organization that is dedicated to working in partnership with families in Johnson County under the conviction that every person should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live where they feel safe and have dignity.
• As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, we are guided by the covenant that we work in the community with organizations, donors, volunteers and our partner-family-homeowners to build affordable housing for those in need. Habitat for Humanity International has built in excess of 500,000 homes worldwide and provided more than 2.5 million people safe, decent, and affordable housing. Through our affiliate’s tithing, we have helped finance 16 houses worldwide.
• Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County was established in June 2006. Our office is located at 780 International Drive, Franklin, IN 46131.
• Habitat homes are sold to our partner-families at no-profit and financed with affordable, no-interest loans which must be repaid within 20 years. Their monthly mortgage payments are paid to Habitat and help finance the construction of future Habitat homes.
• In order to qualify, applicants must meet specific guidelines to join Habitat as a partner family. We ask:
o Is their current housing meeting the family’s needs?
o Has the applicant lived in Johnson County for a minimum of one year?
o Can the applicant make a monthly mortgage payment?
o Does the applicant have minimal debt?
o Is the applicant and the applicant’s family willing to put in hundreds of hours of sweaty equity and attend classes on finance, homeownership etc.?
o Is the applicant within the 30%-60% medium income of Johnson County?
• Habitat depends on strong partnerships with churches, businesses and individuals to sustain its mission of making safe, affordable, decent housing a matter of conscience and action. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat is able to build simple, decent, affordable homes.
• Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County’s goals include:
o Increasing our capacity until we are able to build several homes per year
o Building a greater county-wide awareness of the issues associated with sub-standard housing
o Establishing strong partnerships with churches, businesses and individuals across the county
