This Pit Bull Awareness Month, Billie has a message for you:

Hey, y'all, I am lucky I was rescued, because a lot of pit bulls are killed in pounds and shelters.

I'm lucky I have a wonderful foster home, because a bunch of my fellow rescue dogs are living in boarding kennels.

I'm lucky I had some generous people help out when I needed surgery for a compressed disc in my spine, because some dogs don't get the medical help they need.

Here's where I haven't been lucky (yet). So far, no one wants to adopt me. I know the lady who talks to adopters tells people about me. There are plenty of people who want a dog like me. I love people, I'm good with kids, I'm house trained and I'm fine staying home alone while you work or go to school, I love walks and car rides and playing with my toys and chewing on my bones, but I don't chew on furniture and I don't destroy anything. I like my food, and I like your food, too, if you're willing to share. I even like lettuce! It makes my foster dad laugh. So, there are plenty of people who want a dog like me. But they don't want me, because I'm a "pit bull."

That makes me kind of sad.

Sad for them. They're missing out.

Still, I'd love to find a home of my own with people who are smart enough to appreciate me.

October is Pit Bull Awareness Month and Butch would like everyone to be aware that he is sad and lonely and would like a family to help him feel loved again.

Butch's little buddy Meaux, a chiweenie, was adopted last week. Big pittie mix Butch was not. We were assured, by their former owner's family and by kennel staff, that Butch and Meaux could be placed separately. But Butch is pining away. He doesn't want to eat. He doesn't want to play. He's just sad. His human dad died, his human mom had to move into a small apartment near her daughter and couldn't bring Butch and Meaux with her, and now Meaux has a new family but Butch doesn't.

Butch loves people of all ages and would love more than anything to be part of a family again. He is available to foster or adopt within a couple hours of Austin, Texas. He is at Wimberley Kennel now.

Silly Max. Do you know someone who seems standoffish, who may be difficult to get to know, who may come across as kind of aloof or even a little cold...and then you get to know them and they are the kindest, best friend? They don't let just anyone into their inner circle, but once you're in, you see the rare, special person they only show to those they trust.

I went from my old foster home to a new foster home yesterday. Last night, I was so anxious and sad. Today was better. But I don't like all these changes. And I don't like taking turns with so many other dogs. I would like to share with one other dog. Maybe two. If they're nice.

I'm about 7 or maybe even 8 years old now and I have never had a real home and family.

When will it be my turn?

What's your ideal long weekend? If it is hanging out at home, reading, gardening, watching tv, working on a project, cooking, being alone but not lonely...

We have some dogs who would love to enhance that experience, dogs who really just need one or two people as their companions, who appreciate peace and quiet and solitude.

Like Chato. Chato's has been stuck in the labyrinth of the shelter/rescue system for the past several years, going from shelter to shelter to sanctuary to rescue. Every route through the maze has turned into a dead end, and he needs all our help to find his way out. Chato is a sensitive guy who gets very freaked out if he feels threatened. It's not hard to keep him feeling safe, but he does need the right home. Chato needs a calm, reassuring human as his adopter. He needs a quiet home, and he would do fine with a friendly, confident female dog to be his buddy (and maybe another source of reassurance). Chato doesn't need walks; he just needs a fenced yard, a big soft cushy bed, and a person who appreciates and loves him.

Chato's about 6 years old, 70 pounds, and really way overdue for a guide out of the shelter/rescue maze and into a safe and loving home. Message us!
