Bandit is one of our hospice seniors who acclimated so well into his foster’ home. We still have ongoing health issues with Bandit and we are grateful to his foster family for providing the extra care needed. It truly is a labor of love ❤️

Several years ago we rescued two treeing walker coonhounds with the same facial scaring. Bertie was found and rescued by us and two weeks later Duke showed up so we took him too.
True to their breed they were very gentle and were both adopted quickly.
Duke is back with us and while this makes us sad , it allowed us to take care of his veterinary needs which sadly lapsed after he left us.
Duke is currently being treated for Lyme disease and brought UTD on shots. Lyme disease is totally preventable and curable in dogs. We encourage everyone to take their dogs in at least once a year for a simple 4 DX test that tests for not only heartworm disease but all tickbourne illnesses. Please use flea and tick prevention too because ticks are all over!!

We are looking for a foster or forever home for Duke. He loves other dogs too!!!

Langdon landed today in his medical foster home and he had nothing but love for everyone. He will need crate time and rest which will be hard because he wants to go go go!!! He has lots of energy but we are giving him lots of enrichment toys and treats!! Everything looks great - he goes back for a recheck in 2 weeks so we will keep you posted.

When we rescued Christina and Skittles we were in for quite a surprise !! Well many surprises to be clear. The first was Skittles was heartworm positive- the second was that Christina was pregnant!!!
All of their puppies have found loving forever homes and now it’s their turn. These two lovebirds have been through quite a lot and we would love to keep them together!!
Christina is believed to be 3 although we think younger. Skittles is 4 and has been treated for HW.
Why have 1 dog when you can have two - they play together and keep each other busy!!!
They are really nice sizes - not too big and not too small - just right!!!!

Sweet little Bella enjoying a chilly morning walk!!
Bella recently had a wonderful meet and greet with a lovely family but the location of their home proved to be a bit frightening for Bella who can be a bit timid.
This is the reason why we place so much importance on the home visit!! A wonderful home with a wonderful family but just not the right situation for a scared dog. The adopters saw it too so we mutually agreed this was not in anyone’s best interest.
Our process may take a little longer but it is one that we believe in and is safest for both our dog and their potential adopters.

Langdon had successful surgery today to repair his back leg. He will be going into medical foster and will need to have just the right combination of rest and walking!! The good news is he has a functioning back leg!!
We are grateful to Dr Collins and Dr Freeman at Animerge for taking such good care of Langdon.
We especially appreciate the compassion that they showed not only Langdon but to us as we tried to figure out what to do to help him. That included frantic calls last Sunday prior to us getting him from the shelter.
We look forward to a bright future for him and we feel lucky to have him as part of our NJSH family.

Just checking in to say hello !! Bandit on his way home from his vet appointment with one of our volunteers. He is such a wonderful, happy boy who is enjoying his hospice home. Regular veterinary care is part of our program and our hope is to make his remaining time as comfortable as we can. Thank you to his foster mom Sara for getting him to his appointment yesterday and our volunteer Tina for driving him back home.
