It’s ALMOST time for our Annual Turkey Day 5K. It’s not too late to swing by @bondbrosbeer this afternoon from 5-7 to pick up your race day packet and save yourself (and our volunteers 🤪) from the early morning packet pick up on the day of the race. We can’t wait to see you there!
While we're wrapped up in the excitement and last-minute stress of prepping for our biggest event ever, the FRR Turkey Day 5K, it's so easy to forget why we're doing this. We get so focused on packet pickups, finalizing race day plans, and even prepping for our own Thanksgiving plans (yes, FRR is run entirely be volunteers who have real lives and family's outside of dog rescue), it's important to step back and remember why we run, and why TeddyRox Foundation trusted us with this race.
Mr. Lorax came to us about a month ago from a local animal shelter. He was an emergency medical pull and would have been a cruelty case had his owners been brave enough to come forward and admit their wrongdoings. He was skin and bones, hairless, and terrified of everything. His foster couldn't get near him for a few days- he just hid in his crate shaking. He's come a long way since then, and some of our runners even got to meet him at packet pickup yesterday. He's gained 1.6lbs (1/5 of his bodyweight when we got him), has a thick head of hair growing in, and has become the quintessential lapdog. Even better, he has found an incredibly kind, patient, and loving adopter, and soon will have a forever home of his own.
We run so we can continue saving dogs like Mr. Lorax, who need a little more medical attention, from all across the state. Register online today to help us continue to save dogs, regardless of what their medical expenses may be.
We are also accepting donations on our race site, and every penny goes to saving dogs in need. 🐾🐾 LINK IN BIO!
FREEDOM RIDES for these two! Thanks to this incredible community of fosters and volunteers we were able to pull Noah and (swipe) this sweet tripod girl.
1. A bittersweet freedom ride for Noah- he was adopted from us as a puppy, and returned to us via a trip to Granville County Shelter. We're heart-broken his people dumped in in a crowded shelter before the holiday, but we're so grateful we were able to save him and he will return to his original foster mom.
2. This poor girl was found wandering and ended up at a local shelter. While we don't know much about her, she's a tripod, so we know she hasn't had the best hand dealt in life. We're so glad we we were able to pull her and help her turn her luck around!
TWO more days until our Turkey Day 5k! Have you registered yet? Get your bibs and shirt before race day at one of our sponsor locations!! OR packet pick up starts at 7 am Thanksgiving Day at Lake Benson.
(First 500 participants signed up get runners' bags and shirts; 100 additional shirts available while supplies/sizes last)
UPDATE: COVERED!!! 13 month old Noah is a former FRR pup who was adopted out several months back…unfortunately he did not do well with the adopter’s children and we have been trying to find a new foster for Noah to bring him back into the rescue…well, his person gave up on us finding a place and surrendered him to Granville County shelter today. He is terrified .... but non reactive to dogs in the shelter test (test was a male and a female who kept trying to engage but he is too shut down to react - he just kept his tail tucked). Noah loves other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog to help build his confidence. He is house trained and knows basic commands. No small children as kids stressing him out was the original reason they were rehoming. Patient, calm home needed asap to let him decompress and begin to learn to trust. FRR will also get Noah set up with a trainer to support continued confidence for this guy! We just need a foster! Please please LIKE and SHARE and help us get sweet Noah into a foster home. This fella is a total sweetheart and is so deserving of a loving home. If you’d like to foster Noah and have an approved foster application on file, please email Jennifer@freedom-ride.org with the subject line “Noah”. And please help us spread the word
Meet Ellie, a 1.5 year old chihuahua mix. Sweet girl LOVES her humans. She really wants to please you! Learning time is a breeze with her as she is wicked smart and loves the challenge of new tricks to impress her people! Ellie loves to go on walks and play with her squeaky toys. Her crate is a safe space and she doesn't mind being in there with her toys. She isn't a huge fan of sharing her squeakies, and takes a little longer to warm up to sharing! Ellie is working on her leash manners and to feeling confident around other dogs on the leash. If you are patient and loving, and looking for a loyal companion who loves to cuddle, Ellie may be right for you! Fill out an adoption application on our website at freedom-ride.org today!
