Meet Petey . . . this good boy is looking for a forever home after his owner passed away.
This gorgeous fella is just under seven years of age and he is deaf. He is currently being treated for an ear infection and is on special food for allergies.
Petey is not used to meeting new people or being in new situations so he is skittish and needs an adopter that is prepared to put in the effort for daily gentle socialization. Because he is deaf, he needs to be trained using hand signals and treats.
Because Petey needs a calm home environment, while his new adopters work on gentle socialization to new situations - we would prefer to find him a home with no children and a home that is not busy with a lot of visitors coming and going. Right now, he needs an adult only home with a super controlled environment, because skittish dogs are a flight risk.
A training enthusiast would be best for Petey, someone willing to work with a force free dog trainer, to help him with confidence building.
Serious adoption inquiries please be sure to read the adoption process here:

We are SO happy that Vesper is done with his ear surgeries! Even though he is blind and deaf, his foster mom says he gets around well by using his sense of smell. He can even find the doggie door to go potty outside, can you believe it?
Vesper's recheck went well at the ophthalmologist and his eye pressures are in normal range (he has glaucoma and had an injection procedure to reduce the pressure).
Vesper is a senior fella looking for some truly special adopters to give him such an amazing third act in his life, that it can make up for his past, when humans broke his heart and neglected him for so long.
Are you that special someone that Vesper has been dreaming of? If so, check out his bio at:

Spread the word for Vesper! As neglected as he has been by humans, he is still trusting and wagging his tail. It just shows you what an amazing temperament he has.

AH-dorable Peaches has a puppy face, doesn't she?
This adorable little girlie was rescued after her people no longer wanted her. She had been living outdoors, rarely seeing people, she was so lonely and would cry at night.
One of the neighbors would turn on the light and open the window to talk to Peaches in the middle of the night, to comfort her and get her to stop crying.
The neighbor talked to the owner and asked if she would consider letting Peaches go to a rescue. The owner was very eager to relinquish Peaches and we are so grateful!
The neighbor happened to be an animal rescue volunteer in South Korea. She and several other ladies in South Korea, try to find cocker spaniels in shelters to save. They are rescue partners with Camp Cocker and we are so grateful they saved her and let travel to America to find her fresh start.
The former owner said that Peaches is almost ten years old, but our vet wonders if Peaches could be younger?

Who is ready to fall in love . . . with the lovely and beautiful Lanie!
Lanie is one of our recent @freedom_flight_rescue doggies that just arrived recently from South Korea. She is a super cute spaniel mix and has the sweetest personality ever.
Lanie had been rescued after she was left abandoned outdoors tied up on a chain with a dog house (the property was vacant, after her former owner passed away). Neighbors had been feeding her until our rescue partners were contacted and asked to save her.
Lanie walks funny on her rear legs and x-rays revealed that she has some very old fractures that healed incorrectly. We had a surgical consult but the surgeon said it is better to not try to cut the bone and remodel it with pins/wires. Lanie is walking and can go up and down stairs.
We had a physical therapy consult as well for Lanie and the physical therapist says that just some slow controlled leash walking will help Lanie to build up muscle. She may need some pain management and joint support like a dog with arthritis would need. Per the physical therapist's recommendations, we are going to order some Adequan for Lanie.
The gah-gah-gorgeous Lanie is currently accepting adoption applications at:

Hubba Hubba . . . Handsome Rupert is looking for a forever home!
This fella is gorgeous and he is looking for an adopter that is going to understand him and his special issues.
He just needs to be understood!
We recently learned he has resource guarding of random objects he views as valuable.
Resource guarding is a serious issue and there is no training to make it go away, only training to manage it - so as to set him up to succeed.
All dogs are capable of biting if provoked but resource guarding dogs have a higher risk of biting, if not in a home with a super savvy dog person who understands the steps to take to protect people from getting bitten.
What is confusing about Rupert is he will take treats so gently, but then resource guard a non food item (primarly plastic, plastic bags, plastic wraps, etc.) and it comes as a surprise.

💔💔💔In loving memory of Nate 💔💔💔
. . the sad news continues from our previous post. . .
Nate was an older gentleman that had been rescued recently from the Baldwin Park animal shelter. He was a major medical doggie but we had begun on his to do list and had been feeling really positive about his future.
His ears were so bad and he was scheduled for 2 ear ablation surgeries. But his bloodwork revealed he had Addison's Disease. We took Nate to an internist for a full work up and had to postpone his first ear ablation until his hormones leveled out.
11 days ago, it looked like Nate’s hormones were coming back into normal range and we were thrilled! But then he had what is called an Addisonian crisis and he crashed. He was very sick and we rushed him to the emergency hospital. His hormones were all in abnormal range again and they had to do injections of steroids to help correct the imbalance. They put Nate on iv fluids and he was stabilized. Unfortunately, the internist as well as the emergency vets felt that we should not be putting Nate through the upcoming major ear surgeries.
We thought about all of options and knew the kindest thing we could do for Nate, was to give him a humane euthanasia because he was in so much pain with his ears. This one hit us hard. Really hard. He was the nicest, kindest most gentle dog. Even in all of that ear pain, he allowed us to bathe him, to shave him down, he allowed so many different vets to handle him and do diagnostics on him. He never once complained and was so tolerant. It was hard to say good-bye to Nate, really hard. This past week has been emotionally difficult for all of us. We never want our supporters to get this kind of sad news, but we know that many of you are as emotionally invested in the dogs we rescue, as we are.
Thank you so much to everyone that supports our rescue group. You bring our volunteers comfort when rescue seems so painful that we feel like we can't go through this heartbreak with even one more dog.
Rest in peace sweet Nate and George. So many of us loved you, even people who never even met you ❤️🌈 (To donate in their memory please visit campcocker.com)

💔 💔 💔 In loving memory of George and Nate (Nate will be in the next post) 💔 💔 💔. . . it's been a heartbreaking week - just devastating for all of us at Camp Cocker Rescue. 😭😭😭🌈🌈🌈
On Wednesday we rescued an older black and tan cocker spaniel from the South LA animal shelter and we named him George. He had rotted flesh on his rear foot, two of the toes were ulcerated and raw and open with what looked like a tumor.
We waited for hours at an emergency vet to try to get him in and then after four and a half hours there (they couldn't keep him overnight), we went to another emergency vet hospital and had to start all over again waiting to be seen. George ended up getting checked in shortly after midnight and diagnostics were begun.
The plan for George was to do bloodwork, then sedate him for a closer inspection of the paw, clean it, look for a foreign object, take some cell samples and look at it under the microscope, then send out a bigger tissue sample for a biopsy. X-rays were part of the plan as well, x-rays of the foot as well as the chest (vets always do this to rule out cancer spread).
We were so hopeful about George. On Thursday morning, the hospital called and they gave us the grim news that we were not expecting. George's chest x-rays revealed pulmonary lung metastasis. The foot appeared to be riddled with cancer as well (and it had already spread to the lungs). This news took us by so much shock, but in hindsight, it should not have been surprising based on the rotted flesh on George's foot.
George was humanely euthanized on Thursday morning. Whomever owned him before, really did a disservice by letting George's paw get so advanced without any medical care. George was so SO sweet and he deserved better. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to get him out of the shelter and surround with love during his last moments 💔🌈. Please see the next post for an update and tribute to Nate.

Darla found her happy ending!
Little newbie girl Darla (who was owner relinquished to us last week) has found her new dog mom!
We still must fundraise to help Darla with her medical bills. She needs to get spayed, possibly an anesthesia free dental and her biggest expense will be at the ophthalmologist to evaluate her cataracts. If she is a candidate for cataract surgery, we will have to come up with a creative way to fundraise for her.
Generally it is harder to raise donations for cataract surgery than it is to raise donations for another type of medical that is life or death. Some dogs, if you opt to not get their cataract surgery done, can eventually develop glaucoma and that is far more painful.
Stay tuned for updates about Darla and we are so happy she is feeling so safe in her new home already, that she is able to sleep with her legs in the air.

Welcome to America little Peaches!
This teeny tiny cocker spaniel Freedom Flyer girlie just arrived from South Korea and she is LOVELY!
She was rescued in South Korea, after living outdoors in a dreary cement yard. The lady that rescued her moved in next door and would hear Peaches crying and crying at night time because she was so lonely and it was dark out. So the neighbor would turn on a light and then talk to Peaches out of her window, to try to comfort her.
When the lady asked the neighbor if she would consider relinquishing her dog to a rescue group, the neighbor was eager to do so. She said that Peaches had belonged to her daughter who had moved out.
We had guessed Peaches to be around eight and a half years old but we just found out her real birthdate. She will turn ten years of age on Christmas day! (she doesn't look it, she has a puppy face, doesn't she?)
We are currently taking adoption applications for Peaches. Please be sure to tell serious adoption inquiries to read the adoption process section here:
