Pound on the Hill Animal Rescue

Pound On The Hill Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing the stray, neglected and unloved dogs wandering the streets of Alabama.

After rescuing dogs for over 10 years Dana Darby and Lee Harrington joined forces with Sanderlin Holmes and Susan Pearson to make it official. Lois Bourget of Massachusetts joined the Board, as Director of Northern Affairs. Debbie Grayson is our Health and Wellness advisor. . We are a non-profit rescue registered in the states of Alabama and Massachusetts and have been certified by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture.
We currently have a small sanctuary, a separate climate controlled house for Mamas to deliver and care for their puppies until time for adoption and a large foster network who care for our dogs as they ready for their new homes. We generally have 20-30 dogs in our care at various points on their path to adoption. POH has not yet pulled from local shelters, we and our volunteers find dogs on the streets in need of care or dogs neglected or abandoned by their owners. Every dog is cared for by POH until healthy, vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption without exception. POH has a Community Outreach program which provides food, houses, vetting and education on proper dog care to those in need. As well, POH provides numerous "Stray Stations" with food and clean water for the displaced dogs in Bessemer. We recently joined the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce being the first rescue invited to join the Chamber. We are still in our infancy as an organized rescue and are growing in skills, network and volunteers at an astounding pace. POH is very proud to serve the community.
