As a rescue, it never ceases to amaze us the quality of dogs one can find at a shelter. Dogs, through no fault of their own, find themselves at risk in high kill shelters throughout New Mexico. Many of these shelters try extremely hard to save their dogs by reaching out to rescues, but rescues are limited in the number of dogs they can reasonably pull and find forever homes. When we pull a dog for rescue we potentially are saving 2 dogs .. the dog we pulled and the space we left for another to get a second chance. But we can only pull that first dog if we have somewhere for that dog to go.
Individuals willing to step forward and offer their homes to some of these dogs is such a vital part of rescue. Without our fosters we couldn’t save the dogs we do and the difference they make in these dogs is amazing. We watch the dogs we put into foster change from timid to confident, from begging for attention to thriving on attention, from looking confused when told to sit to learning skills far beyond just a sit. For this Argos sends a huge thank you to our current fosters as they are the first step to showing these dogs the love and attention they can expect in their future forever home and for this, as a rescue, we are grateful.
The commitment is time and a love for dogs .. Argos is responsible for vetting and will provide food, a crate, and needed necessities. If interested in becoming an Argos foster please go to our website www.argosdogrescue.org and complete the foster application located under Foster. We look forward to hearing from you.
We met Luke on his scheduled euthanasia day (as an owner surrender in an over-capacity shelter) and wanted to get to know him better. While on a walk outside we noticed that Luke seemed distracted .. then noticed he was watching intently every car, every person go by the shelter. We found out that this handsome 6 year old lab had been surrendered the day before by his family who had been transferred and felt they had no other options. We realized that Luke was watching and waiting, hoping to see his owner coming to take him home.....
We rescued Luke and found out this boy has the most gentle soul, just so grateful to be out of the shelter. Luke knows sit, stay, shake. He was ready to love on everyone, but never jumping up. Luke displays a moderate energy level and gets along great with other dogs. During his vet exam, the vet felt he was well taken care of and seemed younger than his stated age. While we'll never know a whole lot about Luke’s past, we do know he is going to make someone an awesome and loyal best friend.
If interested in meeting Luke please submit the online application found on our website www.argosdogrescue.org located under Adopt.

Panda is a 3 year old miniature Bull Terrier, weighing just under 40 pounds. She’s potty & kennel trained, walks well on a leash and absolutely loves going on car rides.
Panda is a dominant female that does do well with other submissive dogs, with proper introduction. No cats or small animals. She enjoys the company of children, but it is preferred she goes to a home with older kids (8+) because she is still learning the concept of “personal space.”
Panda does have some anxiety so she needs a family that has the time to work with her. She thrives from going on long walks and hikes, after all a tired dog is a happy dog. She’s been receiving training since coming to rescue & just needs the same consistency to continue progressing in the right direction.
Panda loves to snuggle and will kiss you all day if you let her. Panda is a very sweet girl that is worth every bit of extra time spent, after all it’s not her fault that she never received any exposure prior to being rescued.
Panda is spayed, heartworm negative, UTD on Vaccines, and microchipped.
If you are interested in meeting Panda please fill out an application under adopt at the Argos website. Www.argosdogrescue.org
