I apologize for the lack of updates on our disabled pup Tara. It has been an uphill journey. We started the process of looking for a new chair to accomodate her as the chair she has is not a fit for her and causes more problems than solves. As you can see from the image, it is meant for a rear disabled dog. Basically, a dog that has function of their front legs. Because Tara does not have front leg support, she needs a chair that can hold her weight. The current chair cannot handle her weight and it buckles under it. Also because of the design, she cannot maneuver easily as the front wheels are too small again to support her weight but also to navigate. The chair is meant to be steered from the front, which she cannot do, so therefore she is only able to walk straight in whichever direction we point her. She also cannot sit, or potty, or do anything needed in the current chair.
So we started searching and found Eddies Wheels. We submitted her images for a custom front wheelchair but unfortunately due to her leg placement, a chair cannot be fitted for her unless we removed her legs.
So off to the vet we went. After x-rays we learned that she has 2 shoulder bones on each side (another birth defect) and that the bones are all fused together requiring a full amputation of the entire shoulders. The specialist is not willing/able to perform the surgery as they don't believe she can heal due to weight placement.
So now what? Do we put her down? Do we let her live this miserable life where her world is just a few feet? We may have to, but first, we want to exhaust our options as humans have already failed her enough. So we contacted Ruff Rollin! They make truly custom chairs and believe that they can fit her for a special chair with her legs just how they are. More to come on this but we are EXCITED!! She deserves this and it would allow her to be mobile, to sit, to potty, to go wherever she wanted, and we hope to get skis fitted for the wheels too for the winter weather! But we are trying not to get too ahead of ourselves in case we have another let down. If we are able to work a chair, we will be raising the funds (around $1K) to do so and then we have a couple of potential homes awaiting her! EEEKK!! Please keep her in your thoughts in these coming days as we try to work her wheels!
Meet Tuffy and Trixie. They are just the cutest kittens. Tuffy is a 5 month old female, black Main Coon Mix. Trixie is a 3 month old female tabby/white. They are both current on their vaccinations/deworming and fully litter box trained.
Adoption Fee per cat: $50
Charlee could have been the Tramp! He's such a raggedy little fella and so stinkin cute. We took him to Tractor Supply yesterday and he did so good! We were nervous he'd be vocal the entire time but he really enjoyed all of the commotion. This boy needs an active guardian with another dog to play with, a fenced yard, and preferably someone who would jog with him, hike, or do agility because he is so smart, energetic, and athletic!!
Saturday, August 24th, 2019 was a pretty darn fun-filled day! It was great to visit with old friends, meet new people and people watch (which I adore). Thank you so much to Maureen and everyone else at Roosevelt Park who made us feel so welcome. The same thanks goes to Corey at TSC. It was really enjoyable learning more about rabbits from the 4H families that were there as well. Huge thanks to the three students who helped me at TSC. The three of you, along with Mr. Russell made my day! Thank you to Paige, Jennifer, Larry, Ida, Michelle, Cindy, Val, Noah, and Lowell who helped throughout the day with the regular Meet-N-Greet at The Catty Shack Downtown AND with other various tasks. ❤️Malcolm, Howie, Murphy, Miles, Cole, Felony, Flynn, Rippley, Kenzie, B.B., Calvin and I all had fun getting out. ❤️ Thank you immensely for the $144 in donations, along with the box of cat food that was also donated. As always, thanks for caring.
UPDATE: Should be at the Pound now.

Excuse me? Anyone missing a rabbit? Sweetwater Elementary area (2nd Ave. & 12th St. NE). I have the contact number of someone that lives in the neighborhood. She cannot catch it. Please share if you can.
Thank you to everyone who came to the microchipping event this morning! We were able to chip about 124 pets! That's 124 pets who will get to return home if they are lost, 124 pets that local shelters will not have to house, feed, pay vet bills for, ~100 families that will not have to feel the heartbreak of loss and the worry of not knowing if their pet is out there somewhere with a new family.
We also got $180 in donations, which we put towards For Belle's Sake Spay and Neuter Assistance Program - SNAP . This means that we are able to issue another spay/neuter voucher! Thank you!
Thank you to The PetVet, who did the chipping, and to all our volunteers who spent their Saturday morning helping you and your pets!
Finally, thank you to everyone who brought us donations of food, treats, beds, harnesses, etc. And a HUGE THANK YOU to Tractor Supply Co. who filled the bed of our truck with food!
If you got your pet chipped, remember to register their chips ASAP with that chip number we gave you! If it's not registered, it's not going to help them get home!
Don’t even think about doing something this cruel. There are more people in our area that love animals than do not. You could find yourself winding up on a trunk I’m afraid. Wonder what her excuse was?
